The facility, which is currently under construction, will generate electricity and heat from non-hazardous domestic and commercial waste left over from the recycling process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The acquisition is in line with Gren\u2019s strategy to invest up to GBP 1 billion in low carbon infrastructure and local energy systems in the UK, as well as the business\u2019s<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">wider growth plans:<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Gren recently announced that it plans to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gren.com\/news\/gren-to-invest-eur-200-million-in-the-baltics-most-modern-waste-to-energy-plant-in-acone-latvia\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">invest more than EUR 200 million<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to build an energy-from-waste plant in Acone, Latvia, which is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> connected to the local district heating network, providing affordable and decarbonised heat.<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/gren.com\/news\/gren-a-leading-northern-european-energy-company-agrees-to-acquire-11-heat-and-power-generation-assets-in-the-uk\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Gren entered the UK market<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in May 2023 when it acquired a portfolio of CHP, EfW and biomass assets.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335557856&quot;:16777215,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">South Clyde Energy Centre was previously jointly owned by Nordic energy company Fortum and Macquarie Asset Management.
